Post subject: Obtaining SSL Certificate?
Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

I am learning with Apache and SSL. I have created a Certificate and Key
successfully. However, I notice that when people browse to my secure site,
they get a notice that my certificate is not from a trusted source. Is there
any way to create a trusted source certificate without spending a lot of/any
money?

Thanks!
Chip

You have to get one from one of the certificate authorities (who, as far as
I can tell, only certify that your check didn't bounce, and are authorities
only on cashing checks) that are distributed with web browsers. There are
only a few, and none that are especially cheap.

Take a look at:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.freessl.com/" target="_blank">http://www.freessl.com/</a>

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.geotrust.com/" target="_blank">http://www.geotrust.com/</a>

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.thawte.com/" target="_blank">http://www.thawte.com/</a>

All are considerably cheaper than Verisign.
