I am pretty new to linux and am trying to upgrade Apache 2 on RH9 to
the latest version.

I downloaded httpd-2.0.50.tar from the apache web site and after
extracting, ran

../configure
make
make install

all without any problems. Also when I run
"/usr/local/apache2/bin/apachectl start"
it works fine.

Except that I now seem to have 2 versions of apache running.
If I type "httpd -v" I still get the old version.
Typing "which httpd" returns "/usr/sbin/httpd".
I cannot "rpm -e httpd" it as it has a lot of dependancies listed to
perl etc.

So how do I upgrade one version of Apache 2 to the newest version and
not keep the old version?

Thanks in advance
Russell.

You can use ./configure --with-layout=RedHat to 'fix' all the standard
path and where the files are going to be installed.
