I am new to unix and apache so please bon't beat me up, but I am trying to
figure out something.
How does apache2 know how to load index.html.en as the default document, as
opposed to index.html.de - or .fr - or some other file?

Trying to learn - thanks<<<

Your browser send a request that contains (other than the website
name and the url) also the international configuration (languages
country and so on). Apache read those and decide what to do.

So this one newbie said to the other: "get a good book on Apache (I find the
Apache 2 Server Bible by Mohammed J. Kadir a very helpful guide!).... That
made me learn a LOT in a short period of time."
"And of course", he continued, "try to actually read the online Apache 2
manual documents, they are a good starting point!"...

If you don't specify a default language in httpd.conf (check that file, the
comments should be quite clear on this), Apache decides based on header info
sent by browser. I also understood that if Apache can't make a decision
based on that, it sends English.

Good luck, welcome to Apache, and Welcome to Unix from a fellow n00b!
