Post subject: Newbie failed to start apache error
Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

Hello,
I have just purchased a dedicated server with linux fedora core3.

I have just installed apache 2.2 by doing

../configure /usr/local/apache3 --enable proxy
make
make install

i then edited the module config for apache using webmin with the
following

Apache server root directory /usr/local/apache2
Path to httpd executable /usr/local/apache2/bin/httpd
Path to the apachectl command /usr/local/apache2/bin/apachectl
command to start apache /usr/local/apache2/bin/httpd
Command to stop apache /usr/local/apache2/bin/httpd
command to apply configuration /usr/local/apache2/bin/httpd

however when i go to start apache i get the error

Error

Failed to start apache :

(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address
0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

I think this may be because there is another version of apache
installed somewhere but im realy not sure

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
