Post subject: Newbie Hosting / Domain question.........should be an easy answer..
Archived from groups: alt>freewebhosting (more info?)

Hey all,

I have always used tripod for my personal webpages, and cjb.net
for a better URL. Now i have made a webpage for a friend. He wants
his own, personal domain name. Now, i have seen a bunch of places
offering domain names for $30 per year, or $5 a month, whatever.. I
know those are out there. But, are there any decent ones that will
let me host as well for free (without banners if possible) (the site
won't get a lot of traffic). Or is it better to redirect the personal
URL to the tripod page and just pay the few bucks a month to tripod to
get rid of the banners? I know there have been posts on this, but
most taker a weird turn to another topic and don't adress the
question......

We appreciate your Help,

M

are you on about HOSTING or DOMAIN NAMES ? if there are monthly
fees (or annual fees that high, I guess hosting)...

Get a domain registered, for example at www.ev1servers.net for
~ $6.49 a year (.com, .info, .biz) and then head over to the web
hosting firm <http://www.affordablehost.com/cpanel.shtml> as it
offers free hosting, with no banner ads or links. HTH. Peter

PS If you use mainly free mail services like hotmail.com or
similar, you might want to use a free account at mydomain.com
initially to use for the nameservers for the new domain, which
will then allow all mail sent to that domain to be forwarded on
(to you, since you need to hosting details from AffordableHost)
and can use domain.DeleteThis@the-new-domain.com as the contact address so
as to not fail AffordableHost's policy not to send to any free
mail accounts. They might also ring so use your cellphone no.
to be able to answer any questions about the domain.

I use www.Godaddy.com and they are great to me.

No free hosting but it is a QUALITY site...and has
reasonable prices for the domain register. After you
try a few free ones you'll be looking for one like that.
