Hi,

I am installing Apache on a Linux machine to use as a web server. How do i
go about configuring it so that i can have more than one web site i.e.
multiple domains pointing to my server?

Many thanks

Thank you for your replies,

I will investigate this. One further question: when I register domains I
give them the DNS details / IPS Tag of my current web hosting reseller
account. What do I need to do to create this facility on my new server, or
will these details be supplied by the hosting company I locate the server
at?

Many thanks

What your looking for is called Virtual hosting.
There are 2 kind of Virtual hosting :

- name based
- ip based

the named based Vhost system allows you to host several website with one
IP. It's probably what you want.
Take a look at apache's documentation (should be in your apache
installation, may be in <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://localhost/manual/" target="_blank">http://localhost/manual/</a> )

well if your not sure of what you're doing, leave this to a
professionnal. a DNS server is surely not what you want to deal with
until you know exactly what you are doing.

go and find some professional that will rent you DNS hosting, with a web
frontend, so that you configure domains you own to point to your http
server.

you'd better read the manual on virtual servers OR you can send me $250.00
($125.00 per hour 2 HR minimum) and I will still tell you to read the
manual.
