Sorry for wasting the time of you experts out there i'm new to this stuff.

Yesterday i was viewing my .asp pages locally on my PC with XP-pro, everything was going fine then the....

....'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.'...

error message appeared and now i can't view anything locally. This has happened before when the database file was open with 'Access' or 'Dreamweaver' had connected with a .ldb file and closing these files worked fine. Now however it doesn't, I have turned off 'simple file sharing' on the folder containing the database tried restarting IIS and looking in the properties.

I've spent about a day looking for the solution on the web and it's still not working so thats why i'm here, why is nothing ever simple??????

What are the NTFS permissions on:
a) the folder that the Access file is in
-and-
b) the actual file itself?

The user account that IIS is impersonating needs to have permissions to
change the actual .mdb file, and it needs permissions to create, modify and
delete the .ldb lockfile.

Cheers
Ken

I have just made the NTFS permissions full control for all users for the folder and database file and 'HALLELUJAH' it works.

Thanks Ken!

Hmm, please make sure that the database file isn't physically accessible
from the web, i.e. is placed on the folder level above the web server
root folder then.

PS. Allowing read/write control for an anomnymous web user
(iusr_machinename) is enough in most cases for a database file itself.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
