Tom:
Your "humble opinion" of my personal character was uncalled for.
I said I was forced to use it because I WAS forced to use it. I am a
government contractor responsible for over 125 web sites on 7
different servers. One of the units on our base used an older and
simpler version of WebTrends before the contract began, so we were
REQUIRED to purchase and install the current version for them. Since
that time, even they admit this later version is harder to use than
the version they used before.
If you are analyzing a couple of sites on one server, it's probably
fairly simple, but when you have to FTP the access logs from multiple
servers for processing, and the "Analysis Failed Unexpectedly" errors
you are recieving are not listed in the written documentation, or in
the knowledge base, and a search for the error text on the Internet
returns NO results, THAT'S POOR SUPPORT.
Someone coded the error message into the software, so that means they
know the event could occur. When you pay $1600 for the software, you
shouldn't have to guess what the errors mean. THAT'S POOR SUPPORT.
We bought the software in June. When it arrived, the software
registration keys were not included, so we had to call NetIQ to get
them to send us the keys. They only sent half the keys we paid for,
so we had to contact them again. THAT'S POOR SUPPORT.
I have been an MCSE since 1998, was a well-rated and highly
recommended MCT for three years, and have been administering web
servers since 1995. When a trained and experienced technician can't
locate information to solve a problem, it's not a fear of failure,
it's REALITY.
That WebTrends has all but cornered the market on web analysis
software doesn't make it the best. Much like Iomega vs. Syquest and
VHS vs. Beta, the better ADVERTISED product won out, not the better
product!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
