Post subject: Logging on to IIS (FTP)
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hello,

What I to do is setup an FTP site. I want users to have
anonymous access to download things. Then I want to have
other users able to login using a username and password
and be able to download and upload. Now I have created
the directories and applied the correct permissions.
Anonymous can only download, however, I can't seem to
login using a username and password. I have created the
user(s) in my computer.

What step am i missing here?

Thanks,

Ryan

Right on doug. But I still have a problem logging onto
the site. I can't even logon as the administrator of the
computer. Am i missing something other then the right to
logon locally?

Post the error you're seeing.

The error I get is this:
-------------------------------------------------------
U:\>ftp XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Connected to XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX.
220 webserver Microsoft FTP Service (Version 5.0).
User (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:(none)): Administrator
331 Password required for Administrator.
Password:
530 User Administrator cannot log in.
Login failed.
ftp>

---------------------------------------------------------

I get that message for all users who I try and log on as.
In ISM, the administrators group is set to have
administrator privledges. I don't really see why I can't
create a user (give them local logon privledges), then be
able to log on.

Try
Err Msg: 530 User <Username> Cannot Log In. Login Failed.
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com/?id=200475" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/?id=200475</a>

this is weird, local admin should be able to login.
you can also try filemon (sysinternals.com) to track
if there's any access related error during login.
