Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

Its a well known fact that links from other sites to my website promote may
ranking in search engines. There are many aspects of this matter like the
link type, from which kind of site, asp pages, multiple links and much more.
Can some elaborate on this, or refer to some guide?

Thnaks in advance

Mark

Good links, bad links, they all affect pages search ranking. Links from
related pages, atleast according to some people, affect more than links from
nonrelated pages.

Google for example.

simply do this. search miserable failure

page you should get first from search (unless page has lately changed)
should not contail that search phrase. And reason why, just google for
google bombing and you'll get plenty of info.

See above and make decision if external links with that text have boosted
sites position? Then again maybe certain person just has paid to google to
get his page on top for that search? Wink

So, just because that you think google do not count as ANY example? Smile Oh
well, after all it's not like Google does have that much market share in
searches now is it Wink

And as that example showed, Googles claim seems to be quite accurate that
links affect.

Sure you can Smile Just make small test page and link to it with term not used
in page, I am sure yahoo and msn will find it.

I think I'll have to look if I have any such pages right now (sadly, most
likely not), haven't been that much doing testing lately with search engines
and took plenty of my test pages off quite while back.

Anyway, from experience I DO know though that MSN and Yahoo do pay more
attention to INPAGE optimization than Google does.

Ok, little bit more about this Smile

Try search miserable failure with Yahoo and MSN. What page do you come up
with as first? Is it same or different than what Google bring up?

Just had to check here what come up and BOTH, Yahoo and MSN, gave here same
page as Google did. That page does not have miserable failure in it. So, it
seems quite clear that link text does affect on atleast Google, Yahoo and
MSN. I wonder if that does cover plural enough for you...
