I get prompted to download all word docs in a certain folder on my intranet
instead of viewing them as expected. If I say open the word doc opens as
expected.

How to stop the download prompt?

IIS 5 Win 2k Advanced server SP 4 IE 6

TIA

I am looking for a change to make on the folder that holds the documents. It
has worked in the past.

This has been working until I had one of my techs change permissions on the
folder holding the files. Since then we get prompted to download the file
rather than viewing it in the browser.

I'm so confuse, now -
a) what do you intend to do ?
allow users to browse directly without password prompt ?

b) what's the problem now ?
users get prompt while clicking the doc file

- So, please ensure that iusr has READ permission
to those doc files/folder.

Yes. The users are authenticated before they can access the intranet of
which these word docs are a part of.

 > b) what's the problem now ?

The users can access other word docs in other folders as expected. When
clicking a link in to word docs in other folders, the document opens. When
accessing word docs in the folder the tech changed permissions on instead of
viewing the word doc the "File download" box comes up with "would you like
to open the file or save it to your computer" If you choose open the word
doc is opened as expected.

I want to get rid of the file download box. Users have read permission to
the files in the folder.
