Hi folks, I was wondering if Apache is better than IIS. In addition, a book
I have recommends installing MySQL first, then Apache and then PHP. Is this
an order you recommend?

TIA,
Doug

"Better" at doing what? Running ASP/.NET site? No.
But if you want to use Windows as OS, go for IIS.

You can only run one website on IIS in xp pro.
If you need to run more you need to use apache.

I'd follow that advice. Unless you need ASP/.NET (as someone previously
mentioned) APache is very good, very easy to configure has a lot of
available modules and info, (heck many independent whole sites dedicated to
it.)

IMO it's very good, but again, for what? SOme apps *require* IIS.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Like what?
There is always something you can get that will do the same thing on a
Apache machine.... Smile<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I'll let you know, I just bought a server I need to set up for a customer
and it requires IIS. I have never allowd IIS to be installed on any of opur
machines but I may have to for the customer. Come to think of it he may
already have it installed.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Responding to GET manually is better than IIS. IIS is insecure, buggy,
slow, and expensive. Apache is secure, mostly bug free (nothing is
perfect), fast, and free.
