Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hello,

I've set up an FTP Site on Windows XP and i'm using a LinkSys Router.
Whenever I try to access my FTP, i'm able to connect to my FTP server but
can't view the directoy listing. Tried without the Router and it works
fine. Contacted LinkSys and they told me to set my Server to accept Passive
Mode (Transfer) and will solve the problem. I've looked on the Microsoft
TechNet on how to enable that and they talk about doing it by editing the
MetaBase but I have no clue where I can edit that or what i'm suppose to be
looking for. Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks,
Steven

Steven,

If you've tried it without the router and it works then clearly the
router is the problem.

What Linksys support should have told you is to configure your
*router* to allow passive FTP clients traffic through. As you've
already proved yourself, the server is quite happy to receive a
passive ftp connection, its the router that doesn't want to play Wink

Another option is to use a non-passive ftp client which would only
require you to open up ports 20 and 21.

The KB article explains the whole process in some detail :

IIS Ftp server support both mode, is the client that specify which mode to
use. in your case, you need to open the passive port range. refer these kb.

Thanks Paul, I've used your second option, to open ports 20 and 21 and it
works if I take off the passive mode option on the ftp client. I will use
this for now. I've tried to contact LinkSys using their online chat and the
guy just said to open port 21 and it will become a passive port, told him
that an MCSE said otherwise and he flushed me...what a service!

Thanks again!

Paul,

What exactly this your help mean?

- You can not open that many ports as microsoft says!
- Shit called linksys will not work with port 20-21
- You can not disable passive mode in IIS 5.xx

Is there any way of making IIS to understand that shit called Linksys?

I did tryed everything but nothing helps!!

Best regards
