I was wondering if there is any good way to get massive,
dedicated traffic to a site.

Other than taking a banner on Yahoo! (right) or something
like that.

Does anyone have any real ideas? Also, what are the
adverstising rates for a high traffic site?

Alex

Exactly - and don't make the mistake of thinking that it's just your
product. A brochure-ware site is just that - a sales brochure. With only a
product description, price and a "Buy now!" button, the only people to
visit your site will be those who wish to buy right now. Give them content
in the form of advice or educational material relating to your expertise,
or on multiple uses for your product. Give them a reason to come to your
site even if they're not going to buy anything on that particular visit.

samuraiwar.com went to 10,000 hits a day in a few months, using viral
marketing, when the player gets trapped in the game he has to find another player to
sign up to free himself.

there's hundreds of forums getting several thousand hits per day, just word
of mouth, though unique traffic would be lower than that suggests. girlracer is
about 10,000 hits a day.

you can buy typo .coms for a few grand that get 1000 uniques a day, well worth it
after a while.

bravenet can give you a million banner impressions in a day for $500, about 20,000 hits.

affiliate programs are viral, most product web businesses use them, scan each site in future
for the affiliates menu, they're everywhere.

down.com sold for the measly cost of a second hand car $10,000 a couple months ago, ripe
with 600 type ins a day ready to download software, never a site there. next software
fad and the guys a millionaire.

"Viral marketing". Just the sound of that makes the left side of my face
twitch.

yeh, nothing to do with computer viruses, although they both exhibit exponential growth.
brief theory :

d/dx e^x = e^x the rate of growth of the exponential function is the exponential function

basically anything that increases proportionally to its size will have explosive growth.

Amazon was the first, the more affiliates the more visitors, the more visitors the more affiliates.

Like my free for all links site that benefits users who link back, every thousand visitors someone
links back and provides 10 more visitors a month. So.... it takes about 100 months for the
site to double in traffic..... call that a slow viral effect. Whereas the game where you sign up
more people early on has a fast effect, probably doubling clientele every week until it runs out
of new players at 10,000 per day. If you can invent a new, call it *exponential* marketing
technique then the traffic is all yours. They've all got bad names, pyramid schemes... but
essentially
involve getting other people to work for you, having management. Like my new web ring
r-i-n-g.com each ring will have a ringmaster, webring.com has 60,000 ringmasters, very broad
management level.
