I found a great deal on a server. I figured to help a few people out I would
get it if I could get 15 people interested in 1 gig space / 100 gig band for
$12.99/month. Well only one person contacted me in the few weeks after the
offer was put on a few hosting forums.
Why wasnt anyone interested?
I would have made NO profit at all on that price. Just wanted to help some
people out
Can people really get that much for cheaper? >> Stay informed about: Hosting... |

Maybe they want reliability, from someone who they can trust...and not
cheap.

For a little more than double that price you can get your own server
with 6 times the space, 150gb traffic per month, unlimited email,
SQLServer, mysql, J2EE, Perl, PHP, ASP.NET, domain name thrown in, DNS
managment, your own control panel, etc etc etc and own it yourself...
there are 1001 offers out there these days.
15 * 12.99 sound very much like you'd be making a HUGE profit,
considering a much better setup would only sting you $26 a month.

We sell hosting on eBay. Works well for both us and the customers gained
from there.

Take a look around - you may there's a hosting co-op that already has the
facilities you need. Otherwise to start your own needs a few good friends
with similar plans.

useless (and dangerous) unless it's RAID. Which obviously it's not.

Split between 15 people = 133Gb each?

Pick a host. Most of them match this or better it.

Problem with a co-op is that whoever is running the thing could get hit
by a bus tomorrow and then what happens? Single points of failure need
to be avoided, even when you're talking about people. While Viper may be
trustworthy a good at what he does, how does that stack up against just
dealing directly with a real host, who have tens of staff on support? I
wouldn't want to contact Viper who in turn has to contact his host if
something goes wrong. I'd want to talk to the person sat in front on the
machines.

However, not dedicated servers. By definition, you're not offering a
dedicated server either. You're offering a shared platform, so you're
competing with everyone else offering the same or similar.
I'm not suggesting ur doing anything wrong...! You asked why only one
person had signed up with you. I'm just suggesting reasons! At that kind
of price I'd even be interested if I could see evidence that there was
support behind it. Is there?
