Personally, I would choose alaskaunitedsoccerclubgonnakicksomebutt.com...
but that's just me Wink

Used to be..in the days of the "old net" everyone wanted as short a name as
possible.
Now, with phrase searching, robots looking at Titles, domain names,
content..etc..as a whole in relevance balancing..
I would go with AlaskaUnitedSoccerClub.com

But like I said..that's just me.
Queen of the long domain names.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

AUSC.com

Three reasons:
1. Users want to expend as little effort as possible to gain access to your
information
2. AUSC is easier to remember
3. AUSC is not likely to be misspelled.

All the reasons listed are good...My preference would be the short one, if
available, because it is a hell of a lot easier to send an email too Smile)

I don't wanna type that long thing to send an email to you. Forget it
instead

if it were me , pick a name with words , but fewer words. Random letters can be
forgoten but words are relevant, but make it fewer words so they dont get
misspelled, etc like everyone already said

Many people choose an address that is easy to remember and find in search
engines, not for email.

AUSC.com

Because it is much easier to say, 4 syllables versus 9.

You will also find that this domain will be harder to get. Being four
letters it is probably already registered.

I think syllable count is much more relevant than a word (or letter) count.
Simply because words are spoken in syllables.

Perhaps not a great example:

precious.com versus valuable.com

Both eight letters, both one word, but two syllables against three or four
depending on your pronunciation.

But more people will mispell "precious" than will mispell "valuable".<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Not sure about that.

I did say it was "perhaps not a great example". It was the first thing that
came to mind.

True. Spelling is probably the most important consideraton for a name.

AlaskaUnitedSoccerClub: 22 letters, any of which could be mis-typed.
AUSC.com has been taken.

How about a compromise like alaskausc.com - it is available at time of
writing.

Some search engines like keywords in the domain name. e.g,
alaskasoccerclub.com/org

AUSC.com is more valuable of course. However, it is wrong to compare
the two you've listed. A soccer club is not a company, so it should go
in .org instead. But it is also a local club, so odds are it is even
better listed somewhere under .ak.us.

But who cares about all that "proper listing" crap! Run off and
register ballkickers.com, quick! If the club goes under you'll still be
able to use/sell the domain as a twisted fetish site! Smile<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Fair point but there is no guarantee that search engines will keep using
names as a plus point, especially if (when) too many people start using
overly long, convoluted names designed only for engines.
I prefer to use people-friendly names and use content to attract searcch
engines - it saves worrying whether the name chosen _is_ the best robot
attractor. There is always the option of registering two names of
course, but google doesn't like redirect pages.

A name like the one you suggest looks ok for people and spiders though.
