Post subject: HELP - 2 local websites - 2 op sys - 1 computer
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

I know I can partition my HD and have 2 operating systems on the same HD or
on separate HDs, BUT I would like to have both operating systems active at
the same time. I would also like to have active software and an active
website in each of the opsys active at the same time.

As far as I know this can only be done with 2 different computers networked
together.

I am not talking about using "CrossOver Office", Linux, or Wines-X

Thanks for any help,

HMW

Sounds to me like you're a potential VMWare customer.

Just looked VM Ware

A few questions

1) Does it make a difference what system is host and what is guest?
2) Are all virtual drives active at all times. Can an application be running
in the background of all vitural drives at all times.
3) Can all virtual drives be open to the outside, such as 2 websites active
in 2 virtual drives at 1 time.
4) How supportive is this of windows and linux apps. I noticed that
"CrossOver", Wines-X, and Lindows are nice but not great.

I know I can do all of this with 2 boxes and a KVM switch but did not want
the extra hassle and cost.
I tried getting these answers on their site but could not find.

Thanks,

HMW

I want to have two operating systems active at the same time so I can do
development work (PHP, MYSQL, web site work, etc) in Linux and XP at the
same time ... without the cost of a second Box and KVM switch.

I agree with Todd - vmWare is the thing for you.

Please don't top-post.

In article <tRFib.38295$7_1.26980@twister.austin.rr.com>, HMW says...

I'm not an expert, but AFAIK it isn't possible to boot more than one
operating system at a time.

I can't even imagine how bad attempting this would be. An operating
system needs complete control over the system's resources to function
correctly. Even ignoring that, how would you switch between the GUI of
each OS?

That would be better.

In this case my opinion is humble, I agree with William and Daniel.
