| I've been using Photoimpact on WinXP, but now I have Mandrake linux at home & want to do some basic graphic design of logos, icons, buttons.
I've tried gimp (worst user interface I've ever seen !?) and pixel32 which looked promising but dumped core.
Are there any linux raphic editors worth evaluating??

Nope
If you didn't like Gimp, your well out of luck.
This is exactly the reason I can't migrate to linux. Shame really, I do want
to move over but can't because I can't produce work as fast on a linux
system.

Gimps got one of the best interfaces in its genre. Its based around
Adobe, ya see.

Personally, I think that Gimp has a very nice interface. It's simple,
and menus are easy to get to. The tools and menu layouts are very
similar to that of Adobe products, so I don't see your gripe.
That being said, the biggest challenge is learning how to do some
things. Not everything is done the same as Photoshop, and you'd have to
learn different ways of doing things. That is likely your complaint
about Gimp, not the interface itself.

After spending half an hour with gimp to try & draw a simple rectangle, I gave up.
I know its supposed to be image manipulation rater than vector graphics, but surely I can't be that hard?!

For the record: create the rectangle (circle, ellipse) with the
selection tool, then select Edit/Stroke.

As you have Mandrake, coralphotopaint is available as a package, personally
I do not think it comes close to gimp but its interface may be closer to
what you are familier with?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Graphics editors - linux |
