I'm making my own website.. which one of these sites is better?

1&1 seems to be better, quicker and the style seems easier to use, but
I'm interested to hear if anyone else has experience with this.

webhostingtalk.com will give you lots of opinions. And seldom any of
them good about godaddy's hosting though the domain registar service
seems well revered (i'm also a customer).

1&1 certainly advertises like mad and throws lots of free software at
you. I wouldn't touch em personally since they seem more of a
marketing company than a hosting company.

But WHT can give you lots of opinions and perhaps some alternatives to
check out.
