I haven't heard about this before, and haven't found any real "proof" for
that on Google. Is this really true?

Never heard of that. Sounds more like professional distress than fact.

Actually the Google patents that everybody was talking about a couple of
months ago mentioned incorporating domain registration data in rankings.

Also google has recently become an ICANN approved domain registrar. The
speculation at the time was that they weren't planning on offering a
registration service, but wanted to get at the domain data that
registrars have access to.

I'm not saying that they are, or even that they will in the future, but
somebody at Google has at least considered the possibility of adding
that as part of their algorithm.

I'd still classify GoDady's statement as FUD though.

Buy one year. Rinse and repeat.....

Probably not a SEO tip, but if someone wants to check whether you are a
trusted buyer, they 'may' check your whois to see whether you are in for the
long run. Never heard of it though. Sounds like they just want you to sign
up with them for 10 years at a time.

It's of arguable benefit but it's a clear reference to Google's recent
patent app. they kind of suggested that a domain bought for one years
was likely a throwaway, whereas they'd be taking domains more
seriously if they were registered long-term. Google being the same
peeps who were trying to become domain registrars recently, IIRC.
