A customer registered his own .us domain name with Yahoo. We initiated a
transfer to GoDaddy. The status of the domain is "Transfer Pending." It
has had that status for more than five days. Yahoo has yet to send an
email to the adminsitrative contact asking for approval for the
transfer. What are we supposed to do? Doesn't Yahoo have to follow the
same rules as everyone else?

Warning: If you have a domain name registered through
Yahoo/MelbournerIT, you are in Hotel California.

GoDaddy just answered my inquiry that if Yahoo/MelbourneIT does not
respond to the transfer request with 5 days, the registry will release
the domain for transfer. Wow, it sure does not seem like
Yahoo/MelbourneIT is looking out for its hostages/customers' best
interests. Then again, maybe I misunderstood the note from GoDaddy:

"A request to transfer (domain).us has been submitted to the domain's
current Registry. The Registry will contact the current Registrar to
make a final verification of the transfer. At present we are waiting on
them to respond to this request. Some Registrars will try to verify
requests of this kind before accepting them. Be sure to respond to any
correspondence from your current Registrar in a timely manner or they
may hold the domain. However, if the Registrar does not respond for a
period of 5 days, the Registry will release the domain to us. This is
what happens with many Registrars, so it may be a few days before the
transfer is complete. Once Go Daddy has been informed of the outcome we
will let you know."

We have not received any correspondence from Yahoo/MelbourneIT. I have
transferred quite a few domain names, and this one is the most
aggravating one I've done yet, thanks to Yahoo. It is just my opinion.
Your mileage may vary.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

40% of all transfers fail for one reason or another.
Thats our experience anyway, noth on transfers to us and transfers away.

The usual problem is an incorrect admin email address at the existing
registrar,
or the registrar being the admin contact themselves.

They probably don't have time to bother with silly domain transfers ...
they've got their hands full with gmail spammers. Disturbing. I'm
getting a ton of spam off Yahoo servers from new gmail accounts - or
it's all spoofed, I don't know - but the shit is hitting the fan fast.

I have transferred twice from Yahoo. No problems to report, transfer
occurred within a week for both.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

If there is no reason for delay then the name must transfer.
Dont know about Yahoo but have transfered a number of names
from MelbourneIT without any problems. In faxt, over the
last five years of dealing in domain names we have never had
a transfer fail yet.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
