Post subject: Free Web pages
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

I am teaching a course at a local technical college and am
offering the students extra credit to create their own Web page (it is
a course in using computer applications). Of course, I am requiring
them to put it up on the Web. And I want them to learn to use file
transfer protocol clients, so I need to locate free hosting service(s)
that require uploading of files via FTP access.

I've never used free Web sites (I run my own) so I am not
currently aware of any free hosting services that are available for
them to use. Can someone give me a list of Web sites that give free
Web pages with FTP access?

I am aware that some ISPs provide a free Web page as part of
their service. I have already suggested that they check with their
hosting providers about that. But I suspect there will be a few that
don't and I need to have an alternative available. Even one provider
will do.

  Thanks,

The college doesn't have the ability to give a few meg of space to the
students taking web courses?

Even something like http://www.college.edu/course/~student/ would be a
trivial matter to set up. Connect via ftp, upload, done.

Fred, if this is your website <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.mishmash.com" target="_blank">http://www.mishmash.com</a> (and it appears to
be)
I do hope you are not teaching your students your bad habits Sad

Requires FTP to send the files, should provide a suitable free
environment.

When I tried to sign up for Spaceports, it told me that it is
no longer a free service.

  But, thanks for your assistance.

Well,

They do. But the pages couldn't be seen outside the school
network. Which takes some of the fun out of it.

  Thanks,
