Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi there everyone,
I just did a clean install of W2k3 on my system.
I was running W2k pro and IIS 5 just fine but wanted the
ability to host multiple websites and got tired of
the "too many users connected" errors.

I am using a web directory other than InetPub, have a
Linux-style cgi-bin, and am using ArgoSoft mail, FTP and
News servers for now.

When I try to access my website from IE by typing
http://216.139.101.173 I get "Cannot find server or DNS
error" A ping from a remote computer shows its out there
and communicating, and the mail server is working just
fine. The mail server's web interface at
http://216.139.101.173:8081 is also working fine so it
appears the problem must be with some setting I have or
have not set in IIS or another 2003 security feature right?

I'm wading through the help files and documentation, but
its a bit daunting-especially since so many of the 2003
features are for things I never intend to use.

I guess I'd just really like to get the website up and
running and *then* really dig in and get to know 2003
better...

So can anyone give me a clue to where I've gone wrong?
Thanks.

Found my problem.
Didn't have the DNS and WINS installed.
