Post subject: FTP user can log in...sometimes
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have a user using a WinME box and IE 6.0 to access my FTP site thru my
ISDN line on my Win2K Sp4 server. This user has stored the username and
password to the FTP site on the WinME box. Sometimes when she clicks on the
shortcut she has created for the FTP site, she logs in and other times when
she clicks on the shortcut, she is prompted to enter a valid username and
password. When she is asked for the username and password, she inputs the
correct info numerous times until she is locked out.

I have checked the event logs on the server and the log shows that there was
an invalid username or password used.

Any idea what might be causing this to happen? It is sporadic, and happens
at different times on different days!

Thanks for any help in advance.

Jason Cochrane

Hi Jason,

You're going to be shocked when I tell you this, but...

She's entered the wrong username or password Smile

I am sure that on the outside it doesn't make sense... but I've never seen
a case where that's not been the issue...

Suggestion:

Reset the account, write down user name and password.

Log in as that account and password.

Capture a network trace of the problem.

Decode the BASE64 hash and collect the user name and password...
Verfify that is the correct username and password - or prove that it is
incorrect.

Let me know if you need help with the trace.

Thank you,
