Post subject: Email accounts for websites
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi I have a generalized question.

First I am on my home LAN and am hosting a few of my own websites.
I have w2k3 IIS6

Currently my DNS for the websites is hosted by MyDomain.com and the websites
point to my single IP address.
IIS Host headers handles the rest.

With MyDomain.com I am able to do a catchall for any email address for that
perticular website. I am using this an mapping it to my email address
provided by my ISP(comcast)
I would like to have pop3 email accounts for each of my websites. Of course
I don't want to pay for it. I'm sure I can set it up myself on my server.
Just need some direction.

I have access to Exchange Enterprise. Is this overkill. Sounds complicated
and problematic for me. I'm a programmer not a networker by no means.
Basically I am looking for the easyest way to setup POP3 on my server.
Without having to spend any money. I would like to be able to accesses the
POP accounts through Outlook also.

Thanks for the help
Ron Vecchi

Echange certainly would be overkill, yes, given that IIS 6.0 has its own
POP server bundled now.

unless you plan on growing your home LAN into a medium to large
enterprise company, or if you have other motives for using Exchange
(such as building up a little experience with a view to getting it on
your CV) Wink

I installed the pop3 service for IIS but do not know where or how to
congiure it. I thought it would be similar to adding a website or smtp/nntp
service
Any suggestions?

Thanks

There is a separate snap-in for POP3. Exchange handles this, and they might have some pointers for you.

Thank you. I hope this information is helpful.
