Is there still any money to be made from buying and selling domains?
I have a number of domains that I would consider selling but have no real
way on giving them a price.
What do you think will be a fair way to price up a domain name?
Please don't reply saying that it's worth as much as a buyer will pay, I
need a good way to value these names.

Many thanks
Richard Grove

Well, since you have ruled out the best way to value them, it doesn't
leave much.

Value is very subjective.

You could have a look at greatdomains.com they at least have some
experience of sales, you will get some idea of what *they* regard as
valuable.

If you don't know the "value" as you put it, then offer them for sale and
accept offers.

Put them on ebay, the bidders will value them by their interest, probably
zero.

Do you have a list of the names somewhere that one can view?

Which ones do *you* think are most valuable?

I think the days of cyber-squatting have since been and gone.
The domain is only worth what some is prepared to pay, and not what you
decide is a fair price.

People will rarely pay more than a few times above what a new domain
would cost from a registrar!

Actually charles, I did read richards post...

It's a little like saying
'please tell me how to boil an egg'

You can wrap it up in as many ribbons as you like, but the answer is
still the same.

I realise richard this is prolly not the answer you were looking for, but
hey, I answered you question in saying 'people will generally not pay
more than 2 or 3 times more than it would take to buy new from a
registrar'

I'll add to that:- 'UNLESS, you have an extraordinarily good domain
name'

But yet again, adding to the above... the domain name is only as good as
the buyer thinks it is.

Sorry to be vague.

IMNSHO

Forget the UK names for any real value.

samsearch.com is the best, relatively speaking.

UK-wise UKantiques.co.uk is the best. A few hundred pounds to the right
buyer?

Thats cool, has anyone here ever sold a domain name, if so examples of name
and price would be very helpful
I do think there is money to be made from domains but they do need to be
sensibly priced.
I have considered buying registered domains and soon everything will be
registered.
With that in mind, the value must go up if you are prepared to hold onto
them forever.
What do you think?

Piss off!

Actually, one of mine made the news:

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/09/06/internet.domains/index.html" target="_blank">http://www.cnn.com/2000/TECH/computing/09/06/internet.domains/index.html</a>

However, if you use that as a basis, you may get a false impression!

I think this conversation sounds four years old!

I agree to some extent, if you can be bothered with the transfers etc,
you may make some money.

I refused quite a few offers on names because I felt they were too low,
but on paper were a profit.
