Post subject: Deleting files created by php
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

Tried out a php script for an image gallery for my site. Wasn't happy =
with the results. The script created some thumbnail image files that I =
cannot delete because it gave ownership of the files as "Apache". Is =
there a way to delete these files off the server? Maybe some other php =
script or something?

Thanks in advance........

You can delete then if you are logged in as root. If you do not have root
access to the server you could ask your host to delete them.

Not aware of a specific off-the-shelf script for that.

Something weird if you can install a script that can give permissions that
YOU cannot overide.
If you can install it and run (execute) it then you should also be able to
log in and change those permissions.

As an alternative, If the script was able to give ownership it must be also
able to delete the files. rewrite the script to do that!

Hardly. PHP runs as part of the apache process, and unless the
apache process has root permissions then it can hardly change the
UID of files that it creates.

Using SUExec allows PHP to run as the user UID, but it's not very
stable.

Yeah right!
However, I was talking about installing?
If the user can install the script and the script runs as Apache - then what
is to stop the user changing the script to delete the files it created? Or
for that matter installing another script to do the job?

Also, something wrong with the machine setup if the creator of a file cannot
delete the file. (I am talking about a site owner here, not a visitor! and
about files created within the doc-root.)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

How to "stream" AVI files? - I know AVI files don't stream but what would be the easiest way to convert them into a file that does stream? When an MP3 loads you can start hearing it with Media player even though it has not totally downloaded, can this be done with a video format?
