Post subject: Default login domain for WebDav / Frontpage editing of sites

Is there a way to set the default domain for user accounts when they
access folders using WebDAV or FrontPage extensions?

We are using Windows 2003 Web Server edition that is a member of a
Windows 2003 Active Directory domain. When the users do a File->Open
in IE, Open as Web Folder, enter the URL to the shared folder on the
server, they must enter their login name in as DOMAIN\username. I
would like it so they only have to enter their username. Any ideas?

Hey Matt,

If basic authentication is being used ( I am guessing it is ) then you can
set the default domain name from the properties of the web site in question.

Go to properites of the web site or v-dir
Go to the directory security tab
Go to the authentication and access control, edit
Fill out the Default Domain name

That should do it for you.

Tony, thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately we are using Integrated Windows Authentication. Is
there any way to do it using this method? If not, what would I have
to do, disable the windows auth. and turn on basic auth? Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply...

It's important you understand this, if you are getting a prompt and you are
only using Integrated Auth, guess what? You're not using Integrated Auth,
you're using BASIC.

When Integrated fails, it promptes the end user to supply username and
password.

So if you are relying on this method, enable Basic and do as I've
suggested.

Take note to the fact, this is unsecure... you should get an ssl cert on
the server.
