Post subject: Default Web Site stopped.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I can't get my default site going om W2K Pro iis5. I can
ping local host, and all the LAN check boxes are empty.
In iis, the tree shows Default Website stopped, and the
personal Web manager window says default.htm is off.
If I try to start it, there is a delay and then a message
"service did not respond to the start in a timely fashion".
This might be the same problem as in my posting Oct 17,
3.22 am (iis5 starter) where the thread died because of
a misunderstanding.
Any leads greatly appreciated. Mike.

I can now answer myself. If you try to start up the
website from the Internet Services Window (inside
Administrative tools in Control Panel), then for the first
time I found an error message with a number on it. I have
Friendly error messages turned off in Internet Options,
but that didn't help me anywhere else. The number is
1747, for which the solution can be looked up. Mike.
