Post subject: Default/Virtual server ?
Archived from groups: alt>apache>configuration (more info?)

I am new to apache 2.0.40 running on Linux and although I have it working I
am unsure what is the best way configure 2 IP based hosts.

Example configurations:

1. One IP as default server, one as virtual

or

2. One IP as virtual, 2nd IP as virtual, with one of the virtuals sharing
the default server address.

Which is correct? It seems to work in both configurations but I am not sure
which way it is best. I also will be putting Frontpage extensions on these
sites if that means anything.

Should I even be using the default server or just use the virtual hosts. If
that is the case how do you turn off the default server?

--thx.

Mike

If they are IP based use IP based virtual Host.

I have that setup for both IPs, but what about the default server? Is it ok
that it shares the same IP, port and directory as one of the virtuals or
should there be only one virtual and use the default to host the other site?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Well, you'll have a "default" server anyway, so why bother?

I have two websites. So what you are saying is the right way to do it is to
use one as the default server and the other as the virtual?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
