Try simtel.com
In the late 80's and early 90's they had a massive collection of dos
software.
Run a search for dos grahics, or something.

"Deluxe Paint II Enhanced" - I loved that program... one of the first
graphics programs I used 'seriously' on a PC.

Wow! I used to use that on my old Amiga 500 I used to love making nifty
little animations of things blowing up and stuff

thanks, the file types are Dpaint (.LBM) PCX Brush
Doesn't recognise bitmap and scorned at the .pcx I gave it, from Advanced Batch Converter.
What file type will also work with windows?
found it here for future googlers <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.geocities.com/~butt79/links.html" target="_blank">http://www.geocities.com/~butt79/links.html</a>

Ah! The nostalgia! Although I preferred deluxe paint, especially when you
could do palette-rotation animations. In Deluxe Paint III you could
actually do full animation, in glorious 320*200-pixel 256-colour-o-vision.
Ahhhh, happy days.

Nostalgia hell <g>... I still occasionally use it for it's simplicity...
Obviously graphics is not my forte... One of the beauties of OS/2 is that,
as it has been updated, it has not lost it's ability to run DOS and Win 3x
programs...

actually 640x480 wont detect high color so to get 256 color I'm down to
320x200 anyway just for pictures. no problem since I'm doing counter skins
and avatars and small images mostly. but it wont read .pcx that I make from
windows. I'll try neopaint.
