At 5PM yesterday, I changed a clients DNS settings as part of the migration
to a new site and host server. Within a few minutes, the dns changes seemed
to propagate and I was able to bring up the new site with the URL,
send/receive email through the new server, and upload files via ftp.
This morning, using the same URL, I get the original site on the old host
server. I checked the domain registrar and the correct dns addresses are
shown. A whois check reveals the correct address. Nevertheless, I'm bringing
up the old server.
Can anyone shed some light on this, please? TIA,

Thanks. I tried this, but I receive the msg that it's unable to flush the
dns cache.
Regardless, if I was seeing the correct site last night using the correct
URL, shouldn't the correct info be in the cache?

To followup my own post...I checked with another computer...it brings up the
old site.

I'm surprised the new settings went into effect so quickly, even if not
permanently. Usually it takes 4 - 24 hours for the new info to propagate.
BTW, what's the URL?
Use nslookup to see what is happening.
nslookup site-url
nslookup site-url new-dns-server
The first tells you what your default DNS server thinks the address is.
The second tells you if the new server has the record.

Thanks, Wayne. That's apparently it, because I just checked again and it's
now bringing up the new site.

It all seems to be functioning properly now. Thanks for the hints.

The reason is that it takes 72 hours to fully
propogate across the internet. So depending on the
path, taken, it can go to one web sit or the other
until it is fully propagated across the internet.

You will find that your incoming e-mail to such
domain will do the same thing.

I just started up a new website yesterday. My computer is in GA, USA
and the servers are in CA, USA. I uploaded the index test page, closed
the FTP program, started up SeaMonkey and it was live!! Total time
less than 3 minutes. I was amazed myself!! It may have helped that
the domain address did not change, but moved from an add-on to an
account to it's own seperate account. Still, because the address was
not changing, it had been down for 48 hours while getting the new
location ready.
