Hi

Can anyone confirm if its normal for a domain not to resolve all
around the world within 6 days??

the DNS info was changed in the Uk on teh 24th of Sept, and I am
trying to get access to FTP to my servers which are in Australia but I
cant even get mail via POP3 and sam spade says I do not have a DNS
even though a whois at nominet confirms they are changed.......any
advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Not really.

Whois != DNS

Very possible. Depends on who your registrar is.

The whois only shows that the domain name is registered. Nothing more.
Question really is, are the name servers your domain on properly registered
with the master system?
A long shot is, your domain is "locked" and your host needs to "unlock" it.

Can you expand a little.

my domain is <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.8thrallycross.co.uk" target="_blank">www.8thrallycross.co.uk</a> and whois shows the right DNS BUT
I still cant FTP to the site OR get mail from my server! This is 6
days after the DNS was changed.

Any one any more ideas please??

Something is royally screwed up in your DNS. You have two different
nameservers each saying the other is authoritative for your domain.
8thrallycross.co.uk

It's like an endless loop.

--- DNS lookup for "8thrallycross.co.uk", please wait...
--- contacting nameserver: a.gtld-servers.net [192.5.6.30]
--- Found authoritative nameserver: c.root-servers.net
--- contacting nameserver: c.root-servers.net [192.33.4.12]

--- contacting nameserver: ns3.mywebworx.com [69.61.24.8]
--- Found authoritative nameserver: ns3.mywebworx.com

It must look like a DDOS in the logs.

Better talk to whoever is controlling your DNS.

Ok so NOW the secondary IP for ns4.mywebworx.com at

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://195.66.240.211/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?query=8thrallycross.co.uk" target="_blank">http://195.66.240.211/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?query=8thrallycross.co.uk</a>

shows this

**************************************
Domain Name:
8thrallycross.co.uk

Registrant:
Andy Taylor

Registrant's Address:

THE REGISTRANT IS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS ELECTED TO
HAVE THEIR ADDRESS OMITTED FROM THE WHOIS DATABASE

Registrant's Agent:

URL: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.webfusion.co.uk" target="_blank">http://www.webfusion.co.uk</a>

Relevant Dates:
Registered on: 09-Sep-2003
Renewal Date: 09-Sep-2005
Last updated: 30-Sep-2003

Name servers listed in order:
ns3.mywebworx.com 69.61.24.8
ns4.mywebworx.com 139.81.139.131

WHOIS database last updated at 09:05:02 01-Oct-2003
********************************************

and that is the WRONG IP that should be 69.61.24.9 and NOT
139.81.139.131

who the *** is holding the wrong information. I had exactly the same
problem with another domain I have hosted at the same place 3 weeks
ago AND its also got a HOSTEUROPE tag as well just like 8th rallycross
has............just who is at fault.......anyone know please??

why are you getting differing information to be by the way??

That's where, for example, a server receives such a vast quantity of
simultaneous or sequential requests that it cannot function. In the
case of a web site this may be a loop of thousands of simultaneous
requests for a web page, or running a CGI script. The http server
overloads and slows down to a crawl. Or if it's a Geocities server,
just a mass of requests using up all the bandwidth.
