Post subject: DNS - Additional domains
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

I recently purchased two additional domains, which I intend to link to my
current webhost. Being a difficult idiot I wanted to setup the DNS settings
rather than using the web forwarder options, this is however quite new to me
(hence I wanna learn).

I have the names and IP addresses of the nameservers of my webhost and on
the control panel for my additional domains I can setup A, CNAME, TXT and MX
settings. The hosting is shared hosting and so far all I have managed is to
create a link to the root of the server my site is hosted on. I don't know
if this complicates or simplifies the situation but the part of the site I
want to point to I can place on a subdomain, eg www.here.mysite.com or
www.mysite.com/here.

Thanks to anyone that can help

a difficult idiot?
You don't have the sole proprietaryship on that one Wink

Depending on your setup, you may be complicating the process...or not.

You can, of course, modify all your DNS settings to do as you wish..web
forwarding, MX for email...etc..
If you're using a DNS service, you simply follow their procedures for the
setup and setup your hosting service to match.

Or, if you're using cPanel and have the option for additional domains..it's
a simple addon and it basically does it for you.

When adding Addon Domains with cPanel, it simply creates subdomains and sets
up the redirection to mask.

I could be wrong tho...Have been before Wink<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

That sounds right. Alternately, if your Cpanel host gives you WHM, you can
set them up as individual accounts.

If you're using a host with cPanel and addon domains are enabled
(like with BlackTieHosting.com), why not use the addon domain
feature? Log into your cPanel and click on the Addon Domains
icon.

I see the name of your hosting service and parked domains and I think of a

It used to. But then Joes got taken over by KFC and now it reads
"Ronald McDonald For President"

Shows what an old billboard it is!
