I need some help.

We are running a Win2K Server SP4 and all updates applied. On the server we are running an application called Live Publish. It is a document repository and publishing application. We have 10-12 different groups with sites on this server. For each site a DLLHOST.EXE process is started. About everyother day one of the DLLHOST.EXE processes will spin and take up 100% of the CPU leaving all other processes basically useless. I can occationally end the bad process and everything goes back to normal. Sometimes I have to kill the inetinfo.exe process and it will reset all DLLHOST.exe processes and the server will resume.

I have installed on the server Norton Enterprise AntiVirus and it is updated 4 times a day on virus definitions. I have checked for any viruses and none are found. I have run specifically the Welchia fix and have found no viruses on the system.

When you check the Microsoft KB you find lots of situations where
DLLHOST.EXE either leaks memory, spikes of high CPU or both. I would use
perf, and check to see if it is a memory leak, leading to high cpu and I/O
to disk or if it is just high CPU. And check the processes to try and trace
it down maybe to a certain web app. This is a good KB on setting up Perf for
just this purpose.

I have had a similar problem in the past and a very quick fix that works for
this is:

Using "Scheduled Tasks" I created 3 entries that "Reset" IIS every 8 Hours.
You will find IISReset here: C:\WINNT\system32 and run "iisreset.exe" It
takes about 35 to 45 seconds each time it resets IIS but it works and it's
Free. Just create a "New Task" for each time you want it to run.

One other thing you may want to consider is RamBooster
(http://www.sci.fi/~borg/rambooster/download.htm), I have it set to optimize
my Ram when ever it runs below 125 megabytes of free ram. It refreshes your
ram and releases ram that is no longer in use... it works and it's also
Free.

dllhost uses full processor = IIS crashes - Every 2 days or so, all sites on our IIS box become inaccessible. The only fix for this seems to be to restart the server. I've read up on IISState this afternoon, but the log files aren't telling me anything at present, although the DLLHOST..
