I just had a linux box go into meltdown. There was sustained calling of cgis
from multiple IPs and the load reached 62 before the machine ran out of
virtual memory.

Does anyone have suggestions about detecting/preventing these attacks?

Deja vu?

Have a scan through the recent archives, and then get back with some
more information. What type of scripts were being run? What were the
IP addresess? What do the log files show.
