Hi

I am creating a site for a group that have a CD, they wnat to place
small audio sample on their website the people can download to listen
to before they purchase a CD.

What sample rate should I use to create these file?
Do users here recommend any good freeware software for ripping the
audio from the CD?

Thanks

Take a look at Cooledit, it's not free but it is free to try, and it
is the de facto standard - despite its low cost.

128kbps is probably a good choice.

Exact Audio Copy <http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/> or Grip
<http://nostatic.org/grip/> to rip the audio and then to edit it (cut it
down to the sample you need, add fade in and fade out), use Audacity
<http://audacity.sf.net/>. Use LAME to convert it into MP3. Despite the
name, it's the best MP3 encoder out there (from a sound quality POV).

For dialup streaming use 40kbps, for broadband you can go to 128kbps.

Good old CEP (CooeEdit Pro) is now called Adobe Audition.

The CoolEdit-not-pro (2000 i think it was) version is no longer available.
Also Red Rover has gone.

Actually for dial up you should never go beyond 30kbps (24 is best) if you
want to provide a streaming (listenable) feed without any buffering.

Few dial up users can even get 45kbps (real speed), and internet traffic,
background apps, running at the same time have to be considered

And 128kbps for downloadable and listen later files.
