Post subject: IIS Crash Dump from IISState.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

We have been getting crashes several times a day on a Windows 2003
Server running IIS6. The results of one of these crashes caught by
IISState is included below. Is the issue with OLEAUT32, the calling
opcdaauto, or another thing I don't see?
(Also, this machine is not connected to the Internet so I don't have
availability of all the symbols, but have tried copying some from
another machine)

Thanks for any suggestions.

Post subject: Re: IIS Crash Dump from IISState. [Login to view extended thread Info.]
Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

OLEAUT32 provides the memory handlers for various (COM/ATL) string
structures (BSTRs, Safe Arrays, among other things). The most likely
culprit is opcdaauto.dll passing bad info into OLEAUT32. See if there is an
update for the opddaauto.dll.

Post subject: Re: IIS Crash Dump from IISState. [Login to view extended thread Info.]
Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

Thanks. We are checking into any new versions of the opcdaauto.dll.

Another dump I took has a huge stack trace (see pasted at the end of
this message).. it eventually keeps repeating itself in this pattern..I
counted 81 times this repeats. (I took out the repeating pattern, as
noted with the [......] below.)

Another thing, How do I figure out what these are?
1a9be75
dbac537
dbac438
dbac35a

does it have to do with debugging symbols? Can the Debug Diagnostic
tool figure these out after the fact when I analyze if I have all the
symbols with it? or do they need to be figured out at the time of the
crash when the dump is created?

This dump is from Debug Diagnostic Tool

That's managed code (i.e. .Net). You can open the dump in WinDBG and dump
thread stack with the !sos.clrstack command. See the WinDBG help file for
how to get managed stacks.

Pat,

Ok, I managed to find my way through WinDBG enough to see where the
calls are coming from in the managed code, however it didn't tell me
too much.

I have another crash analysis from Debug Diagnostic tool:

In
w3wp__PID__588__Date__02_01_2006__Time_06_52_54AM__718__Second_Chance_Exception_C0000005.dmp

thread 17

The debug diagnostic tool doesn't do anything for .Net code. It just shows
that an access violation is coming from the CLR - which would be expected if
the problem is in the managed code. Can you post the managed stack you
pulled out of WinDBG?
