Post subject: Corporate entertainer seeking marketing/advertising advice
Archived from groups: biz>general, others (more info?)

I have an unusual business but one that has been growing -- albeit
slowly -- for the last three years. In brief, I provide a
traffic-building attraction for companies who exhibit at trade shows,
as well as corporate entertainment for banquets, meetings, etc. I am
a professional magician who designs customized magic to promote
businesses, kick-off meetings, launch products, and entertain
corporate audiences.

Considering the economic conditions that I've endured as I began this
business, I am optimistic about the future. However, I am seeking the
advice of others who are further down the entrpreneurial road than I.
I have experimented with ads in magazines, yellow pages, etc. and have
been underwhelmed with the results. I did not get a single call from
my listing last year in the directory which I thought was most
targeted to my potential clients.

My best leads, as it turns out, come from people who have found my web
site. I seem to get reasonably high placement in the search engines,
but I'm not at liberty to drop several hundred dollars or more into
some company's promised scheme to get me "to the top" of Google or
Yahoo.

So, I come to the group with the question: If you were in my shoes,
how do you think you might approach the task of advertising/marketing?
Your outside perspectives will be very helpful to me. Sometimes, I
know, you can't see the forest for the trees. If you have a moment,
could you stop by the web site, take a look-see, and post some
comments or ideas here? Hopefully your criticisms and suggestions
could be helpful to others as well as to me.

Thanks, and I look forward to reading some constructive ideas! I will
also be happy to answer any questions I can about my experiences
thusfar.

Best,
Joe M. Turner

Mr. Turner,

If you get good placement in the search engines, simply optimizing
your site for better navigation may help you get a good amount of
additional clients. I would suggest less text and more bullet
points/links. You may also want to take the approach of separating
your site into "sections", i.e., "For Businesses"; "For
Conventions/Expos", etc. Just my $.02.

Good luck!

Brian
