Post subject: Content expiration for office documents
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have the following problem and are wondering if anyone
can help.

Setup:
Win2K
IIS5.0
..NetFramework 1.1

Some of the web-pages contain links to office-documents
(excel) that are also on the web-server. When viewing
these documents, they are put in the temporary internet
files with a content expiration set to 1 day. This is
independent of the content expiration i set on the
directory that holds these files.

I have seen the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 317208
(Internet Explorer Cannot Download Office Documents from
an IIS Server When Content Expiration Is Set to Expire
Immediately). Therefore I have tried expiration like 1
minute, 1 hour, but none of them work.

Please help.
Thanks in advance,

Peter

You should be able to set it to 1 minute. Ensure the server is completely up on windowsupdate (this should not be the issue, but it doesn't hurt). And, try with
a browser up to date. I just worked an issue like this tonight (also the same behavior for .pdf docs), and everything worked fine.

Thank you. I hope this information is helpful.
