Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi!

My IIS (for development) has stopped and I don't know how
to get it running again.

Here is what happens.

I open the computer management, expanding the Services
and Applications branch, and then trying to expand the
Internet Information
Service, the whole Computer Management window freezes,
and has to be stopped
from Task Manager.

My running applications on localhost are no longer
accessible.

I'm running WXP, SP1.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Markus

1) Did it ever work?

2) If it did, what changed?

3) Event log?

Thanks for your interest, Jeff.

Yes, it has worked fine for a while.
Nothing that I am aware of has changed.
The eventlog says that "Service World Wide Web Publishing
stopped during start" and in the service module this
service still has status "Starting". Same with the SMTP
service (that I am not using).

Any ideas?

Post the full event log message or look it up at eventid.net.

After trying to remove IIS to reinstall it a few times
(wizard hung just in the beginning of reinstall), I went
home. This morning when I turned on my computer, w3svc
was running fine.
I hope it doesn't happen again since I still don't know
how to fix it.
