Post subject: URGENT! Component services error
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have a problem. When I click Component Services, My Computer does not
shows up. Instead I get the following error: "The server catalog version is
not supported. The catalog is either newer or older than this application
and a common version for communication does not exist."

Is there a solution or a tool I can usr to fix this? I have install Windows
SP4 and all available hotfixes.

Best regards

This error usually means that the catalog is corrupt. Try following the
steps below to correct this issue:

1) The procedure to restore the COM+ catalog to a clean state is as follows
-
1. Rename %windir%\system32\clbcatq.dll to %windir%\system32\~clbcatq.dll
NOTE: the tilde ~ at the start of the file name)
2. Reboot the machine
3. Start regedit.
Delete the following key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\COM3
4. cd %windir%
5. rmdir /s Registration
6. Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
7. Add/Remove Windows Components, and click Next (etc) to go through the

reinstall process. This will reinstall COM+. If Windows File Protection is
blocking the renaming and deletion of the registry folder, try above steps
logging in SAFEMODE.

Hope this helps!

Hi

I did what you said but now I get the error (during Configuring COM+ ...):

"Sub-component COM+ raised an exception while processing the
OC_COMPLETE_INSTALLATION setup message.
...\csetuputil.cpp (line 5468)
Error code = 0x8011042c

The server catalog version is not supported.
Setup was unable to populate the "LocalComputer" collection."

Any new ideas? Please help!

John

I tried again and now I get the error "80040154 - Class not registered"
instead of "The server catalog version is not supported."

Any ideas?
