Hi everyone,

I'm quite new to web design and development and I would like some opinions
on Macromedia ColdFusion, what are your experiences if you use it...
Does it have some special hardware requirements or can I just install on my
computer at home?

Thanks
Ivana

This sort of question is best answered at their website.

For my money, I totally, carefully, look over the platform requirements and
closely examine the "features". If you haven't done this, you should.

ColdFusion is one of the easiest scripting languages to learn. Although
most CF hosting plans cost more than for other langaues (e,g; php).

You can download CFMX from their site and use it on your home computer.

Hi Ivana,

I'm a non-programmer, and was able to learn enough CF in a couple of weeks
to add some database functionality to my client's web sites. It's said to be
the simplest of the server-side languages to learn; it's tag-based, like
HTML. But it's extremely powerful too.

In order to begin experimenting with it, you'll want to install CFMX server
on your local machine. The single-user version is free; it allows you to
test pages from only one IP address, so it's perfect for development
purposes. CFMX can be installed as a "standalone", using its own web server,
unlike earlier versions of CF Server, which required IIS, PWS, Apache, etc.
to be installed locally.

Good inexpensive CF hosting is now available. <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.CrystalTech.com" target="_blank">http://www.CrystalTech.com</a> is
a favorite; CF hosting is about $17/month with them, and they are known for
good support and an awesome control panel. There's also
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.HostMySite.com," target="_blank">http://www.HostMySite.com,</a> with CF hosting for about $20/month, and
super-excellent support.

Hope that helps!
