Post subject: Accessing newly created web site
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hello,
I've created a new web site in IIS for out local intranet using the host
header mysite.local using the Web Site creation wizard. The folder gets
created without error and all the settings seem to be fine. I put index.htm
in the folder just to test connectivity to the web site. However, it seems no
matter what I put in for the address, I cannot access the site. I've looked
and looked (perhaps I'm just phrasing the search wrong) but all I can find on
this is the same how to create a web site using the wizard. It's not doing me
a lot of good to create a web site that I cannot access. Any suggestions?
Cause, I'm getting the feeling that I'm missing something here, this can't be
that difficult. Smile

Thanks in advance.

first you have to check the from which dns server which website is
listening. Have you created a proper dns server to listen the website.
If you have not created the dns first you have to create the dns
server with the name which u r using for hosting the site.

After the configuration of the proper dns your dns server will listen
the address and it will be availale any where in the network.

Go it thanks! Turns out that I added the DNS record incorrectly. I knew it
had to be something fairly simple. Guess I shouldn't try that after being up
for two days. Smile Thanks again!

a) Have you configured name resolution properly? (so that the machine that
the browser is running on knows what IP address "mysite.local" actually has?
You can test by doing: "ping mysite.local" (without the quotes) at a command
prompt

b) Assuming name resolution is configured properly, when you say "I cannot
access the site", what exactly do you mean?

Cheers
Ken
