I'm hosting a site on IIS, but when I try to access it
from the internet I get a sign-in box, and then Error:
Access is Denied message. If I fill out a valid username
and password I can access the web site. But want users to
access my site without a password.

I've enabled anonymous access to the website, and I've
given the IUSR_machinename account permission to the sites
physical folder.

What else do I have to do to allow anonymous visitors to
my site?

Thanks

Is anonymous access the only check box you have selected?
Also, what is the exact message?

I get a sign in screen asking for a username, password and
domain. If I cancel that, I get a white page that just
says "Error: Access is Denied."

Thanks,
Andre

Hi Andre,

You could run Filemon on the web server when you are attempting to hit the
page. This will tell you
were you are being denied access, it will show up as ACCESS DENIED.

Filemon is a third party utility that you can download from
www.sysinternals.com

I hope this helps.

Hi Andre,

In your Authenication methods you have Anonymous checked, do you also have
Integrated Windows Authenication checked as well, and if so what happens if
you
uncheck it, restart the IIS services and then try hitting the page, what
type of error do
you get then?

I am having the same problem

I unchecked 'Integrated Windows Authentication' and the dialog box still
appears

would the "critical" web server patch I installed the other day using Windows Update
have anything to do with this?

Also, it seems to me there's 1 extra ISAPI filter since I installed this patch...I don't know
anything about these so I'm not about to go deleting them on a whim...but it sure is tempting

any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks in Advance!

Sam
