Post subject: ASP pages suddenly quit working - Perl and HTML pages continue to work just fine
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi,

Every few days, all my ASP scripts suddenly quit working -
I get a generic "The page can not be displayed" error.
Meanwhile, my HTML pages and Perl scripts continue to
work just fine. When the ASP pages quit responding,
there is no peak in CPU or memory usage, nor anything
else to indicate that something is bogged down.
Restarding IIS fixes the problem.

Does anyone have any idea as to what migh be causing this
problem, how I may track down the offending script (if
any), and how I can prevent this problem from happening
again?

Thank you,

Kevin

As the world turns... and another ASP site crashes:

Have you tried running IISState?
http://www.iisfaq.com/default.aspx?view=P197

It's supposed to tell you where the crash occurred and what was running at
the time capturing the last threads operation, it runs DOS (Dirty Operating
System.. hehe), or the command prompt. See the attached help files for use.

If you should figure out what is causing your problems please post it back
here so some of us can view your results. Many others are having the same
type of problem, where ASP crashes but all other things continuing operating
normal.

Or rather, frequently it's not ASP that is crashing but some other code that
ASP runs that crashes/hangs. IISSTATE allows us to point these out to you
as proof that it's non-IIS code crashing/hanging.

It's just like people say "Windows crashes" when in fact it's some
application on Windows which crashes.

Kevin,

If your server is crashing or hanging you might want to
download our ReJuvin8 tool. It's designed to detect then
restart or reboot. It doesn't fix root problems but it
does give you some breathing room while you are addressing
them. ReJuvin8 also gives you email and telephone alert
messages of what it's doing. Use it free for the first
15-days.

ReJuvin8 has both an automatic detect mode and a custom one.
In the auto mode you make all the settings by pointing and
clicking. This will handle most applications.

In the custom mode you can include heartbeat synch
files which give you absolute detection that certain functions
are working. ReJuvin8 includes tools and instructions to help
you do this. Need to get going immediately? We will contract
to set it up for you at your site.
