Does ASP work on Win2k WS???
If so, then my next question would be:
1) How to resolve http: 500 errors?
My ASP code works fine on my servers, yet not on my WS. The security context
etc are all correct (according to all MS and web related articles).
TX in advance.

In your copy of IE, please goto Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced and
uncheck "show friendly HTTP errors". Please relaod the page and post the
full error you now see.
Thanks
Cheers

Server Application Error
The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the
processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail
information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.
Been there, done that. But maybe someone has an idea.

Hi,
Can you tell us what is in the Windows Event Log? Please post Event ID,
Event Source and Description of error type events. We can't see your
machine, and so we don't know what errors are being logged.
Cheers

App Log: The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'. The error
was 'Server execution failed to load application "/lm/w3svc/1/root". The
error was 'server execution failed' (EVENT ID 36)

Microsoft Online Support site located at:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp." target="_blank">http://www.microsoft.com/contentredirect.asp.</a> THIS OF COURSE IS NONE

Sys log: The server {3D14228D-FBE1-11D0-995D-00C04FD919C1} did not register
with DCOM within the required timeout. (EVENT ID 10010). Again another
search of MS KB ensued.
----------------------------------------------
According to MS, these are related to NT Authority/Authenticated and NT
Authority/Interactive accounts not in the Local Users (i.e machine) group.
They are, and there is no issue with IUSR_computer or IWAM as HTML works
fine.

Hi Ken. I assume that the answer to my first question about IIS running in
Win2k WS is yes?
I know that I've done this in the past even when I've taught MS Courses. So
this is why the confusion.

Hi,
Can you give me a list of all users in the local Users group please?
Has this always been a problem on this machine? I.e. you just installed IIS
now, and none of the ASP pages work?
Otherwise, check step 6 in this KB article to create the COM+ out-of-process
IIS applications:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309051" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309051</a>
There are also a few other postings about this problem in these groups, but
pretty much every solution has involved checking the Users group, and
restarting IIS.
Cheers

USERS GROUP -> Domain Users, Authenticated, Interactive (I also added
administrators), myself (local admin), System and CO (nothing), ISUR & IWAM.
The defaualt app is 'medium pooled' and the ASP mapping is correct. I
actually did a complete remove and reinstall of IIS (including nuking the
metabase). By completely remove, I mean even Registry entries, all DLLs and
all I*.* execs and dll files. Same thing
Yes this is a new install and ASP has never worked on this workstation (I
did the install about a week ago). Also, I've gone through this entire
article (every step etc) and also ran synciwam.vbs (MS suggestion) prior to
submission to this NG. I've called every other MCSE and MCT that I am
affiliated with and we have looked at almost everything. Obviouslsy,
something was missed - ergo this dialog.
tx again.
