Post subject: ASP.NET account and IIS
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hello all,

Running IIS5.0 on Windows XP Pro... I am trying to develop and test some
basic VB.NET/ASP.NET applications and have some problems:

1. After trying to run the application and receiving Page Not Available and
Internal Server Errors (500?), I tried removing and readding the ASPNET
account thinking that it was a problem. That did not work. Now I have a
"phantom" unknown account (the OLD ASPNET account). How do I readd this
account or reset the phantom account to ASPNET?

2. What exactly is the proper setup to run an ASP.NET application on IIS5?
I have tried different security settings even allow all rights to the
IUSR_<mymachine> and ASPNET accounts and still I get these errors.

I have reinstalled IIS and the latest .NET Framework SDK and still no go.
Can someone please help me with both of these issues? (1->Restore the old
ASPNET account, 2->Help me configure IIS to run ASP.NET apps)

Thanks!

Ben Kim

Your questions may be better answered in an ASP/ASP.NET newsgroup.

I've listed an article that may be helpful in recreating the ASPNET
account. I've also listed several articles about running ASP.NET
applications.
