Hello,

According to the docs I have read so far, the cause of ASP application to restart is when global.asa gets modified e.g. by backup program or antivirus.
I have set global.asa to read only but the ASP session still restarts. There is nothing in the event log that tells why it happens either. How do I troubleshoot and find out the cause of the frequent restart of the application?

The effect of the restart is the Application variables in ASP gets reset. One of the variables saved into the Application is the time it was first started and this is how we can tell that the app has been restarted. I believe when this happens all sessions are also cleaned out and people must login again etc.

Thanks in advance for any tips

Make sure that you are not scanning .asa files in your scanner setup. As a test, stop all backup and virus services, and see if you still have this behavior.

Thank you. I hope this information is helpful.

Hi Tim

Thanks. I have tried disabling anti virus and backups only run twice a day.
The most I've seen the sessions lasting is 300minutes. I have also tried
setting ASPAppRestart to False but the application seems to still be
restarted regardless. Is there anything else I should check?

Thanks for the help

I would run filemon to see if you can reproduce the behavior and see what is touching your global.asa.

Thank you. I hope this information is helpful.
