hi all, i am applying the IISADMPWD patch to fix the issues fom KB 833734.

it's still not working. Sad

i checked the folder %sysroot%\sys32\inetsvr\iisadmpwd\

there is no w3core.dll as per mentioned KB.

is there supposed to be?

i do have a w3core.pdb file from another patch that MS emailed me. am i

Rowdy,

What does 'its still not working' actually mean ? Do you get any error
messages ? Anything in Event Viewer ? There should be a file called
KB833734.log in your %systemroot% directory which should contain some
useful information.

FYI, you'll find w3core.dll in the %systemroot%/system32/inetsrv
directory.

thanx for the help paul. will look at the locations you mentioned. Smile

well, i am working on a pilot project on sharepoint portal server 2k3. it's
setup & working. it's running on IIS 6.x. pretty neat product. i have to
muck around with it a bit 'cause i don't have an AD network environment
yet. it's all stand alone right now.

anyways, long story short. trying to get it setup to allow users to change
their own passwords - implementing IISADMPWD. there are a few articles on
it on the web. i used IISADMPWD before on IIS 5.x - never really had probs.
on IIS 6.x - it's being a bugger.

some of the symptoms i am having are listed in KB833734. i go the patches
from MS and applied them. still didn't fix it.

i get to the default passwrd account change page. but the password changes
are not applied to the account. i think i got it misfigured somewhere. will
need to do some surfing.....

the MS support dude gave me two zips. one had newer asp's the other had pdb
files. what do the *.pdb files do?

Rowdy,

Did you set it up as per this KB article ?

IISADMPWD Virtual Directory Is Not Created During a Default Install of
IIS 6.0
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com/?id=555071" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/?id=555071</a>

PDB files are used in debugging, I'm not sure why you would be sent
those files with a hotfix. What documentation/instructions did you
receive with the hotfix files ?

yes. i read that article and set it up as per article .

the thing i am working on is still a pilot project. no live data on it. so
i used the non-secure method.

"adsutil.vbs set w3svc/1/PasswordChangeFlags 1"

did not recieve any errors that i rememeber.

i am begining to think that the usr accounts need to be a memeber of a
local group and that group needs to have permissions to the IISADMPWD
folder.

i never had to tweak much with the user accounts that are used to access
SPS. i just created the accounts, the accounts are members of Users grp -
and it just worked.

You need to ring PSS to obtain the fix.

Thanks Bernard. I have got it. Unfortunately the hotfix just work for Windows
2003 Server, so I can not apply it on Windows 2000 server that has the
identical issue. Would be Microsoft has hotfix for Windows 2000 server too.

Exactly what behavior are you experiencing?
Are you using the ASP password change pages or the HTR ones?
